-whistle - get set - clap! -
Last Friday (18/03/2017) me and many other students from years 5-8 attended the SE Zones Swimming Sports. The day started at 9:30 in Jellie Park, with the 9 year old girls freestyle.
You could feel the anxious vibe around you as you waited, watching swimmers, waiting for your race, with every whistle, every clap, every dive, every passing swimmer, your race was coming closer. Restlessly sitting with your school, you would wait.
Through the shouts, the screams, you would hear your name being called, you were being beckoned over, with your mouth dry, you were almost certain you were shaking, you would walk and wait. Following your competitors to your seat, you sit down, your eyes don't know where to look, then you're moving forward, one by one… and it's your race. You hear the whistle, everything turns to a mumble, you're looking at the water below ready to dive and - clap! - you push off, your fingers, chest and finally legs slice into the water. Everything's quiet for a moment, but as you rise to the surface the noise returns.
