By Isla and Kiera.

Image result for christchurch roadworksFor our inquiry, we have chosen an issue in our community to investigate and find out about. We have chosen to look at why the Christchurch earthquake recovery has been so slow. At the end of this inquiry for our summative assessment we will do a rant. A rant is a 1 and a half minute video where you walk through alleyways and talk about an issue. Here are some of our questions that we will answer to help us have a better understanding of our topic...

- How can we help people affected?
- What is causing the recovery to be so slow?
- Who can change this?
- Who makes the decisions?

Inquiry Statement: The Bike Park

The Bike Park

For our inquiry we have to have to do a rant on a issue in our community.

Some of our questions are:

Why is it taking along time to return to former glory?

Who is responsible for getting it back on its feet?

What do people do if they disagree with repairing the bike park?

What could we do to help speed up the process?
Who do we need to talk to if we are able to help?

When is it going to reopen?

Who makes the  decisions?

How are decisions made around what will happen to  the Bike Park?

Inquiry

For our inquiry, we have decided to do a rant about getting rid of bad graffiti but keeping the good / cool street art. We are concerned about our city looking bad, our environment getting ruined and young New Zealander's getting the wrong idea......

Our line of inquiry:
Our city has too much graffiti that badly influences young people, and ruins our environment.

Some of our questions are....
- Where are separate places for graffiti and street art?
- Who do we need to talk to to fix the issue?
- How can we get rid of bad graffiti but keep the good street art?
- How can we prevent bad graffiti from happening?

Art with Jo Laughnan

After we did our charcoal drawing, we used pastels. The still life drawing is bold and colourful.

Art with Jo Laughnan

Today we worked with Jo Laughnan to learn about still life drawing.
First we used charcoal and learnt about shapes and shading.

Our finished work is 3 dimensional and was quick to produce.

Inquiry..... Parliament 101

Our new inquiry is all about 'A COMMUNITY is IMPACTED by the ACTIONS and DECISIONS of its MEMBERS'

Our LINES of INQUIRY are:
People have different perspectives on issues
People in New Zealand have a responsibility to contribute to decision making
Communities change in response to decisions made

Social action can influence decisions
SO.... Who makes the decisions? How do they decide? What are some of the decisions that impact us personally?
How do our actions impact our classrooms? Where in the city/ country/ world are there challenges making decisions? What are my responsibilities as a citizen? What do we do in a democratic society to resolve differences?
GET THINKING!!!
